Guest Book Comments

We have had a Visitors Book in both cottages for many years now and guests are invited to add their comments as they wish. Some entries suggest areas to visit, nice walks and good places to eat. Others comment on the cottages and the time they have had there. Listed here are just a few comments from across the years – they are unsolicited and genuine. Although we have not identified the authors fully here, if you come to stay you will be able to read them for yourself!

“Wonderful holiday. Our 1st time in Scotland and we couldn’t have picked a more perfect spot! Stunning views and plenty to do come rain or shine. Thank you.”
Steve, Sue and Emma, North Yorkshire

“We had a fabulous time with family. The cottages was the perfect base. We came here from Los Angeles and brought the sun with us. The West coast of Scotland in the sunshine is the most beautiful place in the world.”
Jen, Joe, Madison & Clara, Los Angeles, USA

“We had a wonderful stay at Islay Cottage. The sunset from our window and the weather were absolutely fantastic. The cottage is perfect and equipped with everything we needed. It is likely that we will come back, not only for this cottage, but for the basking sharks which we missed this time.”
The Ligtenberg family, The Netherlands

Scott, Lyn, Sidney and Libby, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

“Another year and another fab week!  Weather was fab.  Cottage is as usual peaceful, claming and excellently kitted out.  Everything you need, a real home from home.See you again soon!”
Jon and Jayne

“A wonderful week, never tiring of the views and new places to explore. We enjoyed eating out at the recommended places. Many birds spotted, and the otter was much in evidence. Enjoyed the ease, comfort and luxury of the cottage.”
Sue, Gilly and Fiona

“Fantastic week, beautiful cottage, super weather, stunning scenery, Scotland at its best.  Thank you so much – your accommodation and attention to detail was perfect. Great relaxing time, walking, boating, and watching otter in the next bay!”
Graham, Jennifer and Claire

“A warm, comfortable week at Jura Cottage. Good information and maps in the cottage meant we were able to get out and about with the children, dogs, bikes, boat, etc!!  We would definitely come back and stay here again.”
The Fletchers, Alnwick, Northumberland

“We’ve had a very peaceful and restful time here this week.  Islay Cottage is very comfortable and we’ve spent countless hours just sat in front of the window watching the goings on.  Entertainment has been provided by the heron, curlew, little grebes and merganzers. We also watched an otter swim across the harbour”
Linda and Andy, North Yorkshire

“Cottage and facilities fantastic – despite being sub-zero all the time during our stay, we were always warm and cosy.  Will desperately miss the view out of the front – you could never get tired of that.”
Fiona & Terry, Derbyshire

Comments1“What a lovely place to stay. The peace and solitude was very welcome, and what a view…!”
Caroline and Andy, Devon

“Another relaxing stay in this lovely cottage.  Weather has been perfect for walking and the views from the windows across the marine and hills has been stunning.  Dogs have loved their walks and their trips along the causeway every morning and evening.”
The Herberts

“We have had a fabulous week here in one of the best cottages we have stayed in.  Thank you so much for such a peaceful and relaxing cottage with wonderful views.  We have loved the historical sites locally, and Highland games, and the most scenic countryside to die for.”
Colynne & John, Bovey Tracey, Devon

“Our second consecutive stay in Islay Cottage!  We were very pleased with the perfect cottage the first time, so we came back to do some further exploration of Argyll, the Craignish and Taynish peninsulas, Iona, Mull…”
The Vanhercke family, Nieuwpoort, Belgium

“Delighted to find the house as comfortable and well-looked-after as promised on the website, with everything we could possibly need, down to storybooks for the toddlers!”
Therese, Michael and Sylvie

“The spectacular location, so close to the bay, and the well equipped and comfortable cottage, combine to make this a wonderful holiday location!  Thank you for all those little ‘extra’ touches.”
Rosemary, Andrew, Timothy & Laura, Great Ayton

“What a lovely, comfortable cottage.  We have stayed in more self-catering properties all over Scotland than I care to remember – this tops the bill!!”
Mo and Roger, Birmingham

“Excellent holiday – great cottage, great weather, great walks and views.  We experienced glorious sunsets.  Looked forward to this holiday during the -30˚ cold of the Canadian winter – exceeded our expectations.
Pat Payne & co, Edmonton, Canada

marina2“It’s four years since we first came here, and it’s just as lovely as we remembered.  The weather has been mixed, so we have been out and about on fine days and stayed here on not so fine days, making good use of this cosy cottage, especially the open fire.”
Neil, Caroline and Rosanna, Huddersfield

“The cottage is even better than on the website.  We have had a really good holiday – first time in Scotland but not our last.”
The Mallets, Plymouth, Devon

“I liked it because we’re close to a beach.  I liked it because there are lots of places to ride my bike.  Nice to see seal in harbour – about 14 seals on island nearby – great place to stay!”
Gill, Paul, Gemma, Kim & Katy

“Our fifth year here and once again wonderful.  Lovely accommodation and weather good.  We have done many things this holiday and recommend the following:  cable car above Fort William; trip to Iona; Farsain boat ride around the isles; Lochnell Arms Hotel across Connell bridge for Sunday carvery.  We’ll be back!”
The Wards, Lutterworth

“Best equipped place we’ve ever stayed at, right down to Finding Nemo DVD (loved by Rose, aged 3) and Mull Historical Society CD (loved by us!)  Great to have modern, quality appliances, not hand-me-down tat.  Loved our week here.”
The Philpotts, York

“Instant relaxation mode as soon as we came through the door
 Scenery spectacular
Long walks and log fires galore – wonderful!
 Awesome hilltop views
 Yes, we’ll definitely be back!!

Lots to do and see – the boys thoroughly enjoyed seeing the seal in the bay one evening.  A relaxing week that went far too quickly. The cottage is fantastic and so well equipped – your website really doesn’t do you justice.”
The Minter Family, Wokingham, Berkshire

“The accommodations here are so well thought out – every time I needed something it had been thought of.  The trip to Glencoe is a must – go through Tyndrum on the way and Ballachulish on the return for full effect (3 hours round trip).  Amazing cottage – my 4th trip to Scotland and by far the best accommodations ever!”
Gary & Laura, Sandy UT, USA

“We have stayed in many cottages, in the UK and abroad, over the years.  Islay qualifies as one of the very best.  What makes it stand out are the highest standards of cleanliness, the superb attention to detail, and finally the wonderful views.  We have had the most lovely holiday with a variety of weather each bringing its own wealth of colour and splendour.”
Lynda & David, Crewe

“Alison + Matthew, you must be aware of just what a perfect place you’ve created here.  The whole package adds up to a truly wonderful experience that can’t be summed up in a few words – although the comments of the previous guests come as close as you probably can.  Barbara, the seasoned Scottish traveller, tells me that it doesn’t get any better than this cottage in this place.”
Russell & Barbara, Chester

sunset“When we looked at the eulogies taken from this book on your excellent website, we found them a little hard to believe… Having spent the most glorious week here, we can only echo all their sentiments.”
Brian & Shirley

“A lovely cottage.  It’s not often that something exceeds expectations, but you have achieved this.  The weather has been great, but we were overwhelmed by the wonderful location, not to mention the cleanliness of the cottage.  If you like a peaceful place where you can walk through some of the world’s most beautiful scenery without having to jump into big 4×4 (or SUV in American terms) then spend a week here – you’ll love it!  The most peaceful, most tranquil, and certainly one of the best value holidays we have had.”
Rikki & Lesley, Dundee

“An excellent base for touring the island and Highlands, or just enjoying the tranquillity of the local area. Watching the sun set over the harbour, whilst sitting in front of the open fire, with a bottle of excellent wine, is as near to heaven as one could hope to reach. We have had a great holiday and a perfect start to our marriage.”
The Walkers Honeymoon

“Islay Cottage is a real tribute to Alison and Matthew who work so hard to keep it to this standard, the best we have found in 20 years visiting Scotland. It can only be described as a little piece of heaven in God’s own country.  A wonderful place for our honeymoon.”
Mr & Mrs Audus

“Fantastic cottage – a pleasure to enter after a long drive.  As everyone has said, the views are great, and the website didn’t exaggerate them at all.  A lovely, peaceful holiday.  It will be a shame to switch the mobile on again. ”
Graham & Sheila, Essex

“Our 4th visit and it was just as enjoyable as our 1st.  The cottage gets better with every visit and we loved the little touches.  We even managed to find new things to do, the most fun being crabbing in the rock pools to the left of the cottage.”
Debbie & Steve, Northampton
